ADNOC Gas, EtihadWE to Study Gas Supply for Northern Emirates Power

ADNOC Gas has signed an agreement with Etihad Water and Electricity to study future natural gas supply arrangements aimed at new power generation capacity in the UAE's Northern Emirates.

The company disclosed the agreement with EtihadWE, as the utility is known, in a statement on Wednesday. Under the arrangement the two sides will examine supply options that would open a new domestic market for ADNOC Gas's growing volumes and give the utility a dependable fuel source for additional generating capacity.

For the supplier, a wider domestic customer base creates long-term demand for the gas unlocked by its growth program.

Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, EtihadWE's chief executive, said the deal supports the utility's effort to build a balanced portfolio of gas-fired and renewable generation.

It followed an agreement signed on Tuesday between ADNOC Gas and France's TotalEnergies covering supply of up to 1.6 million tonnes of LNG over five years, with initial deliveries due in 2026.

Fatema Al Nuaimi, chief executive of ADNOC Gas, said the company is investing to meet the UAE's growing energy needs. Bigger capacity and infrastructure can connect new supply with new customers, she said, back future power generation and deliver sustainable long-term value to shareholders.

ADNOC Gas is running what it describes as one of the world's largest integrated gas growth programs, with planned investment of roughly $28 billion between 2026 and 2030 to reach its growth target.

Rich Gas Development, one strand, will add processing capacity and increase the natural gas available to the domestic market. In August the company awarded $8.2 billion in engineering, procurement and construction contracts for phases 2 and 3 of that project. A second strand, Estidama, is meant to modernise the pipeline network to keep pace with demand across the country.

ADNOC Gas shares rose 1.58% to $0.87, or AED 3.21, at 11:40 am AST on Wednesday, giving it a market capitalisation of $67 billion, or AED 246.4 billion. It ranks sixth on a 2026 ranking of the region's 100 most valuable companies.

The timing matters: the company is committing capital years before the new volumes arrive. Lining up domestic and export buyers now gives it outlets for that supply, while EtihadWE gets fuel certainty as it adds gas-fired plants alongside renewables.
