ADNOC Signs 10-Year LNG Deal With India's Gujarat Energy for Up to 4 Million Tonnes

ADNOC has signed a 10-year agreement to supply India's Gujarat Energy Ltd with as much as 4 million tonnes of LNG, the first sale to come out of the international portfolio held by its investment arm XRG.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028. It is ADNOC's fifth LNG supply contract in India, and the first time the company has agreed to deliver LNG sourced from XRG's holdings outside the UAE.

The deal was concluded through ADNOC's global LNG marketing and trading platform, which the company launched at Abu Dhabi Global Market in July 2026. That platform has already secured supply agreements with Japan's INPEX and Thailand's Gulf Group, and it widens ADNOC's commercial reach across Asian energy markets. ADNOC is targeting 47 million tonnes per annum of marketable LNG beyond 2030 through the platform, while integrating its domestic and international gas portfolios.

Rashid Al Mazrouei, ADNOC's Chief Marketing & Origination Officer for LNG, said the agreement strengthens the company's long-standing energy partnership with India and supports its strategy of linking international gas supplies with customers through a centralized trading platform. Pricing terms and the contract's financial value were not disclosed.

Gujarat Energy brings regasification infrastructure and a city gas distribution network spanning 44 districts across six Indian states, alongside a growing natural gas trading business. Managing Director Avantika Singh Aulakh highlighted natural gas as a lever for industrial efficiency, household energy supply and cleaner transportation.

The contract lands alongside other moves by the group. XRG agreed on Nov. 3 to acquire Shell's 16.67% stake in Australia's North West Shelf LNG project for $1.45 billion plus a potential milestone-linked payment, taking in upstream assets, processing infrastructure and LNG offtake arrangements; completion is expected in 2027, subject to regulatory approvals. That same day, ADNOC Gas signed a five-year supply agreement with TotalEnergies covering up to 1.6 million tonnes of LNG, with deliveries expected to start in 2026.

Sultan Al Jaber is ADNOC Group Managing Director and Group CEO. He ranked second on a 2026 list of the region's top 100 chief executives.

The sequencing matters. The India contract is a promise to deliver volumes the group does not yet fully control, and the first cargoes under it will not move until 2028 — roughly a year after the Australian stake is expected to change hands. Between now and then, the trading desk has to line up supply from holdings still being assembled, which is why the platform, rather than any single asset, sits at the center of ADNOC's plan to turn production outside the Gulf into contracted sales to Indian buyers.
