Who is arriving, and why

Saudi Arabia's non-Saudi population reached about 15.7 million in the middle of 2024. A year earlier the figure was 14.5 million. The General Authority for Statistics puts foreign nationals at 44.4% of the country's residents.

Jobs drive much of that traffic. InterNations' Expat Insider 2026 survey found that 70% of respondents in Saudi Arabia had moved for work-related reasons, against 33% of respondents globally. Seventy-two percent of those in the Kingdom said the relocation had improved their career prospects.

Signing a contract is one thing. Setting up a household is another. School admissions, tenancy agreements, residency paperwork, bank accounts and clinic registrations all sit on the other side of arrival, and each tends to live in a different place. A government portal here, a Facebook group there, a colleague's phone number somewhere else.

The gap Ahlan targets

Abiel Ghezae founded Ahlan to organise that scatter. The company, which began operating in May 2026 and is currently in beta, calls itself an AI-powered global mobility platform. Its users are international professionals and their families, along with the employers and service providers around them.

“Attracting talent is only part of the challenge. Professionals still have to navigate housing, schools, documentation, finances and everyday life across disconnected sources and providers,” Ghezae says. “That is the gap Ahlan is being built to address.”

That is the gap Ahlan is being built to address.

He came at the problem from personal experience. Preparing to return to Saudi Arabia in early 2026, Ghezae had lived and worked in Riyadh before, and still found that assembling basic information meant working through government websites, property listings, Facebook and WhatsApp groups, and calls to people he knew.

“Saudi Arabia today is very different from the country I previously lived in. The scale of transformation is attracting international companies, investment and talent,” he says, and that has created demand for a simpler way to move to the Kingdom and live there.

Ghezae was born in Saudi Arabia and raised in the UK, and has spent more than two decades working across both in entrepreneurship, business development, marketing, events and community building. That includes two and a half years as marketing director for an international retail franchise in the Kingdom. He now leads Ahlan's business strategy and growth.

“I realized the problem wasn't necessarily a lack of information,” he says. “It was bringing the right information together, making it personal and providing a clear route from a question to actually getting something done.”

Ask, plan, do

Ahlan's entry point is a questionnaire that assesses each member's needs and priorities. Those answers feed Ask Ahlan, the platform's AI assistant, which answers relocation questions with guidance tied to that member's situation rather than to the country in general.

From there the model runs in three steps the company labels Ask, Plan and Do. Guidance turns into a personalised plan, and the plan points to a next action or to a provider who can carry it out.

Accuracy is handled through a feature called Verify Sources, which members can select after an answer appears to see the material behind it. Ghezae says that layer is still being strengthened, and that the core team includes two PhDs in artificial intelligence. “Trust is equally important,” he says.

Two of the most-used tools, according to Ghezae, are relocation checklists and a savings calculator that helps members work through the financial side of a move. Discover and Community sections let members browse and review restaurants, cafes, events and local experiences. Booking capability is in development, which would let members arrange services inside the platform instead of leaving it to find them.

Pilots, members and a pre-seed round

Five months into the business, Ahlan reports 500 members and 12 organisational pilots. The pilots run across education, events, media, and health and beauty, and include an international school backed by the Public Investment Fund. The organisations involved have not been named while the pilots are under way.

“Organizations can support their international professionals through one connected ecosystem while gaining greater visibility into their needs and progress,” Ghezae says. “We are connecting three sides of the ecosystem: the professional, the organization supporting them, and trusted providers capable of fulfilling their needs.”

The company has been funded by its founder to date and is now raising US$750,000 in pre-seed capital.

“Relocation is our entry point because it creates a series of high intent needs, from housing and education to careers, events and everyday services,” Ghezae says. “The opportunity is to connect that intent with the organisations supporting internationally mobile professionals and trusted providers capable of serving them. Saudi Arabia gives us a compelling market in which to prove that model before expanding further.”

What comes next

Ahlan is aiming for roughly 3,000 members by the end of October, a target it intends to reach through paid acquisition. A larger base gives the team more to test the service against.

Beyond that, the roadmap is about supply. The company wants to add more Saudi service providers so members spend less time hopping between separate websites and social platforms to find a school, a landlord or a clinic. Saudi Arabia stays the focus while the team builds local knowledge; expansion into the GCC and other international relocation routes comes later.

Ghezae frames the long-term goal in infrastructure terms. “I want Ahlan to become a key part of the infrastructure that makes international mobility significantly less fragmented,” he says. In the Kingdom, that means one place where a professional can ask a question, weigh the options, make a plan and take the next step, with employers and providers moving through the same system.

The pre-seed round is still open. The next checkpoint is the end of October, when the team expects to be measuring a member base roughly six times the size of the one it has now.
