American Hospital Dubai Adds da Vinci 5 Surgical Robot
The hospital expands its robotic surgery portfolio through a deal with Al Naghi Medical for Intuitive's latest platform.

American Hospital Dubai is adding Intuitive's da Vinci 5 robotic surgical platform to its operating theatres under a deal with Al Naghi Medical, a UAE-based medical distributor. The hospital announced the agreement on Friday.
Intuitive builds the system in the United States; Al Naghi Medical supplies it in the local market. The da Vinci 5 becomes the newest piece of a robotic surgery programme the hospital has been assembling across several generations of the technology.
The hospital already runs two other Intuitive platforms, the Xi model and the Single Port system. It says the expanded line-up gives it one of the region's most extensive robotic surgery setups and backs its ambition to serve as a centre of excellence for advanced robotic surgery, training and clinical outcomes.
The purchase supports the hospital's stated aim of leading the region in surgical innovation and robotic-assisted care.
Robotic-assisted surgery uses console-driven instruments rather than a surgeon's hands at the operating table. Adding another machine to the fleet widens the range of cases the hospital's surgeons can take on.
The new system carries more than 150 enhancements over earlier generations. One of them is Force Feedback, which lets a surgeon gauge the amount of pressure applied to tissue during a procedure. The hospital says that improves tissue handling and shortens recovery time.
Higher-resolution 3D imaging is another addition, rendering anatomy in more realistic detail. The hospital credits it with improving efficiency and precision. King's College Hospital London in Dubai notes that the platform converts a surgeon's hand movements into precise instrument actions during minimally invasive procedures.
