Brookfield Opens Doha Office to Anchor $416B Credit Platform in the Gulf

Brookfield has opened an office in Doha, giving its $416 billion global credit platform a base in Qatar and a deeper footing across the Gulf.

The office is meant to expand the firm's investment activity in Qatar and will work with partners to identify opportunities there. It also fits a familiar pattern for Brookfield: putting people on the ground in the markets where it deploys capital. The credit platform covers opportunistic credit, asset-backed finance and performing corporate credit, and includes Oaktree.

Jad Ellawn, Brookfield's managing partner and regional head of the Middle East, called the opening a natural step in the firm's regional expansion, citing investment opportunities in Qatar and the chance to strengthen long-term partnerships in the country.

Qatar is already a substantial market for the firm. In December 2025, Brookfield announced a $20 billion joint venture with Qai, an AI company owned by the Qatar Investment Authority, to develop AI infrastructure in Qatar and selected international markets. The venture includes an Integrated Compute center designed to widen access to high-performance computing.

Across the GCC, Brookfield manages about $20 billion spanning private equity, real estate, credit and infrastructure. Globally, its assets under management exceed $1 trillion.

In July 2026 the firm announced the first close of its Middle East Partners fund at roughly $2 billion. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund anchored the vehicle, which is to invest in businesses across Saudi Arabia and the broader Middle East and aims to put 50% of its capital into Saudi Arabia.

The Doha opening and the Gulf fund point the same way. Brookfield is assembling country-level teams and dedicated capital rather than covering the region from a distance, which matters for a credit business that needs local borrowers, sponsors and assets to underwrite.
