Emirates NBD and Dubai Future District Fund Partner on Fintech and AI

Emirates NBD has entered a partnership with Dubai Future District Fund (DFDF) to advance fintech and AI innovation across its banking operations. DFDF is Dubai's AED1 billion evergreen venture capital fund of funds, anchored by the Dubai International Financial Centre and the Dubai Future Foundation. It invests in startups operating in financial services and other future economy sectors.

Through the collaboration, Emirates NBD will identify, pilot and potentially deploy fintech and AI solutions developed by startups in DFDF's pipeline. The bank plans to run structured pilots with DFDF portfolio companies and, where successful, move them into commercial deployment. Focus areas include AI-driven banking, embedded finance, digital assets, SME solutions, wealthtech, compliance technology and next-generation banking infrastructure.

The partnership gives Emirates NBD access to a pipeline of technology startups without taking direct stakes itself. Because DFDF is a fund of funds, that network extends beyond direct portfolio companies to the venture funds DFDF backs. The stated goals are better customer experience, stronger risk management and greater operational efficiency. Emirates NBD, a banking group active across the Middle East, North Africa, Türkiye and South Asia, gets a route to early-stage companies that might otherwise never reach a bank's procurement process. DFDF's portfolio companies get the chance to test their products in a large banking environment.

Marwan Hadi, Group Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management at Emirates NBD, said the partnership will deliver more personalised and intelligent banking experiences. He said it will enable faster deployment of digital banking capabilities, improve fraud detection and financial security, and enhance SME and business banking solutions. It will also support seamless onboarding services, he added.

The collaboration builds on Emirates NBD's National Digital Talent Incubator (NDTI), which supports Emirati entrepreneurs building technology ventures in financial services, AI and digital commerce through mentorship, industry access and strategic guidance. Hadi said the bank's association with DFDF reinforces its commitment to national talent development and advances the UAE's innovation agenda through NDTI.

Nader Albastaki, Managing Director at DFDF, said the collaboration reflects a shared vision for innovation-driven progress. He said it gives high-potential startups opportunities for pilot projects, strategic partnerships and commercial deployment within Emirates NBD's ecosystem. He added that the collaboration contributes to Dubai's ambition of becoming a global hub for digital finance and entrepreneurship.

Emirates NBD cited figures projecting the UAE fintech market will grow from US$3.16 billion in 2024 to US$5.71 billion by 2029.

The deal is a sign of how large banks are using fund structures to source innovation instead of building everything in-house. For DFDF-backed startups, a pilot with a bank of Emirates NBD's scale can be the difference between a proof of concept and a product with real distribution. That makes the fund's portfolio more attractive to later-stage investors and gives Dubai another lever in its push to be a centre for digital finance.
