Emirates NBD Opens VIP Business Banking Tier to Points-Based Entry

More business banking customers in the UAE can now join Emirates NBD's VIP Privilege Program, which the bank previously kept closed to all but invited clients. Entry is decided by how much business a company does with the group.

All existing Business Banking clients fall under the new rules, along with new clients who sign up on selected packages. Membership carries priority treatment, lower rates on fees and a package of business and lifestyle benefits.

A 100,000-point threshold

A firm needs 100,000 points, collected over the bank's review year, to qualify. Deposits, loans and wealth balances generate points, and foreign exchange and trade finance volumes count toward the total too. Five activity lines feed the score. Firms on the Emirati package get a 25% bonus on the points they accrue, which lifts the effective earning rate on that tier.

Since the score is built from core banking activity, the design favours small and mid-sized firms that concentrate their deposits, borrowing and cross-border business with Emirates NBD. A company that spreads those relationships across several lenders reaches the threshold more slowly.

The programme used to be reserved for clients the bank chose to invite. That kept the tier small, but it gave firms no route in on their own. Points reverse that. Qualification is now something a business can work out in advance, using balances and volumes it already tracks.

Hamad Mohamed Zayed, Group Head of Business Banking at Emirates NBD, said the aim is to give business customers access to priority treatment reflecting their activity with the bank, rather than an invitation.

Card, service and perks

Members receive a Visa Infinite Business Debit Card, which the bank says is a first for the MENA region. They reach contact centre staff without waiting and get priority at Business Banking Centres.

  • A named relationship manager for each member firm.
  • Real-time services on businessONLINE.
  • Airport lounge access and concierge service.
  • Valet parking at major sites in the UAE.
  • Discounts on airport services, car hire and business software.

Service and discounts run in parallel: priority handling, a named contact and faster digital access on one side, travel and software savings on the other.

Qualification is measured against banking volume, which makes the tier largely self-selecting. Firms that move more of their treasury, credit and trade activity to Emirates NBD clear 100,000 points sooner than those that keep it elsewhere.

Whatever the perks attached to it, the entry standard is now public and numerical: 100,000 points inside a review year, with currency and trade flows counting alongside balance sheet activity.
