Huawei Cloud and Thndr Sign MoU to Push Cloud and AI Deeper Into Egyptian Finance

Huawei Cloud and Thndr, an Egyptian digital investment platform, have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at widening the use of cloud computing and artificial intelligence across financial services. The agreement was finalised at the Huawei Cloud Fintech Summit 2026.

What the partnership covers

The two companies are targeting technical innovation on two fronts: running operations more efficiently and deploying infrastructure that meets the security standards financial firms are held to.

On the infrastructure side, Huawei Cloud offers an integrated stack that combines computing, storage and networking, built so that financial institutions can scale without rebuilding their systems each time volumes rise. The company also provides a financial-grade AI platform that supports automated models and services.

Huawei Cloud's view

Jo Xu, CEO of Huawei Cloud Egypt, said the tie-up with Thndr is intended to produce cloud and AI solutions that make digital financial services more efficient and give customers more intelligent, adaptive experiences.

Data stays in Egypt

The compliance question matters as much as the technology. Huawei Cloud opened a public cloud region in Egypt in 2024, citing local data sovereignty and digital growth as the reasons. The region holds a Tier 3 licence and certification from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, and the environment meets the Egyptian Financial Regulatory Authority's data localisation requirements. Sensitive financial records are stored and processed inside the country rather than abroad.

Thndr's plans

Ahmad Hammouda, co-founder and CEO of Thndr, said the company's mission is to make investing more accessible, simple and inclusive for millions of people in Egypt and the wider region. He said Thndr is pleased to strengthen its collaboration with Huawei Cloud as it scales the platform and looks at the opportunities cloud and AI open up.

For Egyptian fintechs, the terms of data storage often decide which vendors are even eligible. A locally hosted, licensed region shortens the compliance path for a platform handling customer money and records, and it lets a company add AI features without sending the underlying data across borders. Thndr's move points to a broader pattern in the market: investment and payments apps that grew on simple, consumer-facing products now need infrastructure that regulators will accept before they can push into lending, advice or anything else that leans on customer history.
