LIONS Riyadh to Debut in December 2027 With Creative Effectiveness on the Agenda

LIONS will stage its first Riyadh edition from December 6 to 8, 2027, at the King Abdullah Financial District. The festival, a fixture of the global advertising calendar, is being brought to Saudi Arabia by Tahaluf, the events company behind Money20/20, Black Hat, Cityscape and CPHI.

For Tahaluf chief executive Mike Champion, the significance lies in where the event sits. Speaking about the launch, he said the region is now able to host a major part of the LIONS platform itself, in Riyadh. The gathering is expected to draw figures from advertising, marketing, media and other creative fields, but the ambitions reach past staging a recognized festival in a new market.

A festival with its own character

Familiar LIONS elements will carry over, yet Riyadh is meant to look and sound different. Arabic-language creative work, regional audiences and the specific traits of Middle Eastern advertising and media markets will shape part of the agenda.

That distinction matters for brands, agencies, publishers and independent creators across the Gulf. The event is framed as an exchange in both directions: regional players join global conversations and bring their own experience and ideas with them, while local businesses gain contact with international industry leaders, along with the relationships and expertise that built other creative markets.

The ambition is that Riyadh is treated as an active participant in the conversations shaping the industry, rather than as a stop on an international circuit.

Creativity that has to perform

The question organizers keep returning to is commercial. What makes creative work valuable to a business? Champion said the program covers creative excellence and creative effectiveness, placing business performance inside the creative discussion.

A striking campaign can capture attention. Whether it produces measurable results is a separate test, and one the festival intends to examine through international speakers and industry panels. For founders, emerging agencies and growing brands, that emphasis recasts creativity as a strategic tool rather than an exercise in storytelling or visibility.

Organizers expect global creators, publishers, influencers, marketing executives and senior decision-makers to attend, giving regional participants direct access to international practice. The value they hope to generate outlasts the three days: future collaborations, commercial openings and greater visibility for regional talent inside established networks.

Tahaluf's track record

Transplanting international event brands into Saudi Arabia is not new work for Tahaluf. It has done so across technology, finance, real estate and healthcare.

"We haven't just done it once or twice," Champion said. "We've done it with eight of the world's biggest brands across multiple sectors."

LIONS Riyadh applies that experience to a different ecosystem, one where creative talent, brand storytelling, technology and commercial performance intersect. Champion points to delivery as the company's contribution.

"What I'd say Tahaluf brings to that is the capability, the know-how, and the proven track record of being able to deliver clear, world-class events."

The festival runs December 6-8, 2027, at KAFD, with programming that celebrates strong ideas and then asks what those ideas deliver for the brands and businesses funding them.
