Mashreq Deploys Clari5 Generative AI to Speed Fraud Investigations
The bank has put AI tools inside its fraud platform to link data across sources and shorten case work, with human analysts keeping the final say.
Mashreq has added generative AI tools to its fraud platform, built through its ongoing work with Clari5, a Perfios company. The tools are aimed at improving detection, raising analyst productivity and tightening the quality of fraud-case decisions.
The system links data from several sources and is designed to shorten investigations, so teams can interpret what they are seeing and react to new risks faster and with more consistency. Mashreq frames the launch as part of its continued spending on fraud-risk management. For customers, the expected result is quicker and more even detection, which the bank says should reinforce confidence in its ability to protect them.
Human control stays in place
Clari5 is careful about how the system is positioned. It is meant to assist investigators rather than replace their judgment, and it runs on-premises inside the bank's own environment. The company says it is auditable and explainable, and that decisions remain under human control.
Rivi Varghese, co-founder and chief executive of Clari5, said the AI operates on-premises inside a bank's environment and is grounded in that bank's context. He said it stays auditable, explainable and subject to human oversight, and confirmed the company has gone live with Mashreq. He described the deployment as an example of enterprise-grade AI for managing financial crime.
Ahmed Abdelaal, group chief executive of Mashreq, said fraud is growing more sophisticated as financial services move further into digital channels, and that banks have to change how they respond.
Perfios argues that this kind of tooling helps banks take on more complex financial crime. The practical test is whether faster case handling holds up without loosening scrutiny — an on-premises setup with an audit trail is how Clari5 answers that question, and Mashreq's analysts now work inside it.
