Mubadala Bio and Marcyrl Group to Localize Women's Health and Respiratory Medicines in the UAE
The two companies will manufacture and distribute women's health, fertility and respiratory portfolios in the UAE, with more products expected to follow.
Mubadala Bio, the Abu Dhabi-based life sciences company, has formed a strategic partnership with Marcyrl Pharmaceutical Industries, also known as Marcyrl Group, to localize women's health, fertility and respiratory medicines in the UAE.
The agreement was struck during the Future Health Summit in Abu Dhabi. Dr. Essam Mohamed, Group Chief Executive Officer of Mubadala Bio, and Dr. George Saad, Chief Executive Officer of Marcyrl Group, signed it.
Two portfolios, one agreement
Under the deal, the two companies will localize and distribute two product portfolios in the UAE. The first covers women's health and fertility medicines, a category that supports fertility, pregnancy and childbirth and treats common gynecological and hormonal conditions. The second covers respiratory care for acute and chronic conditions, including metered dose inhalers, dry powder inhalers, nebulization solutions and nasal sprays.
The respiratory line is built around delivery devices as much as molecules. Each of those formats requires its own production and testing setup.
More products are expected to join the partnership over time, according to both companies.
Localization as strategy
Dr. Mohamed said making pharmaceutical products inside the country is central to building a life sciences ecosystem in the UAE that can absorb shocks. He identified women's health as a priority therapy area for Mubadala Bio. Adding respiratory medicines to the same agreement, he said, allows the company to localize a comprehensive portfolio and widen access to treatments for patients across the UAE.
Dr. Saad called the deal an important step in expanding access to essential medicines in the UAE and across the GCC. Marcyrl contributes manufacturing expertise in women's health, fertility and respiratory care; Mubadala Bio contributes its regional platform. Dr. Saad said the combination is meant to advance localization, strengthen healthcare resilience and improve patient access to quality treatments.
Behind the agreement
The partnership forms part of Mubadala Bio's push to build local pharmaceutical capabilities, widen access to priority therapies and support an integrated life sciences ecosystem in the UAE. The company operates through two core verticals. Integrated Biopharma works on advancing local drug manufacturing; Pharma Logistics focuses on ensuring timely access to critical medications. Its footprint spans the UAE, Asia, Africa and Europe.
Those two verticals are meant to reinforce each other. Manufacturing capacity without distribution reach leaves stock sitting in warehouses, while distribution without local production keeps a market dependent on finished shipments from abroad.
What the two portfolios have in common is that they sit at opposite ends of the same problem. Fertility and hormonal treatments demand specialized production and tight quality control; inhaled and nasal products depend on device assembly and formulation precision. Doing both locally, under one partnership, means manufacturing readiness, quality systems and product registration have to move in parallel rather than one after another. The pledge to add products later turns what starts as a two-portfolio arrangement into something closer to a standing pipeline.
Each inhaler, nebulizer solution and hormonal therapy covered by the agreement still has to clear UAE regulatory approval and be produced at commercial scale before it reaches a pharmacy shelf or a hospital formulary. That is where the partnership will be judged.
