PureHealth and Family Development Foundation Launch Healthy Horizons for Abu Dhabi Seniors

PureHealth and the Family Development Foundation are rolling out a preventive care program for Emirati seniors in Abu Dhabi. The initiative, called Healthy Horizons, was announced in a statement on Tuesday.

Healthy Horizons combines free specialist screenings with workshops on managing chronic disease. It also includes assisted onboarding to the Pura app, PureHealth's AI-powered digital health platform. The clinical scope covers geriatric medicine, chronic disease management, vision health, sleep quality, and mental wellbeing.

This is a broader scope than the usual screening day. Geriatric medicine and chronic disease management form the core, but vision, sleep, and mental wellbeing are treated as part of the same care path. Older residents get a single point of entry for conditions that are typically handled in separate clinics.

Partner organizations include Emirates Foundation, Active Abu Dhabi, SEHA, SEHA Clinics, Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, and SAKINA. The mix spans public healthcare providers, volunteer infrastructure, and community sports bodies, allowing the program to address both medical care and everyday activity.

Participants receive direct pathways into PureHealth's clinical network, so a screening result can become a scheduled consultation. Pura is used for ongoing care and appointment management. Once someone is on the app, the follow-up loop stays open between visits. Preventive screenings are already running alongside assisted enrollment into the digital platform.

Fifty-four trained volunteers from PureHeroes logged more than 270 service hours during the initial rollout. PureHeroes is a national healthcare volunteering platform set up by Emirates Foundation and PureHealth. The volunteers worked across registration, screening stations, and app setup during the first phase.

Leya Al Damani, PureHealth's chief sustainability officer, said sustainable healthcare comes from early intervention and community resilience rather than treatment alone. Connecting community outreach with specialist care and digital tools across the PureHealth network creates a model that can deliver measurable social impact and long-term health outcomes, she said. The program is being positioned as a prevention investment, not a short-term service boost.

The design treats senior care as an ongoing relationship rather than a single appointment, and it ties that relationship to the clinical network where follow-up can actually happen. Healthy Horizons builds on geriatric services that already exist within PureHealth. Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City opened the Barakatna Clinic in December 2025 with the Department of Community Development and the Family Development Foundation. This new program is structured as a recurring outreach model rather than a one-off screening event.

Healthy Horizons aligns with the UAE's National Policy for Senior Citizens, the Centennial Plan 2071, and the Barakatna initiative launched by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to improve senior citizen wellbeing in Abu Dhabi. The policy connection anchors the program in a long-term national direction rather than a standalone effort.

PureHealth plans to extend Healthy Horizons to additional communities and broaden digital follow-up over subsequent cycles.
