What Three Startups Found in Abu Dhabi's Ecosystem
Archireef, Vivan Therapeutics, and Inovat each found different reasons to build from Abu Dhabi.

The Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2026 ranks Abu Dhabi among the world's Top 50 emerging startup ecosystems. The emirate's ecosystem value hit US$73.4 billion, a 3,057% increase from the H2 2023–2025 baseline. Startup Genome and the Global Entrepreneurship Network produced the report, which placed Abu Dhabi in the #41-50 band, up from #51-60 a year earlier. Growth areas include AI, fintech, climate tech, Web3, and digital assets.
Founders who relocated to Abu Dhabi point to something beyond capital. The emirate allows 100% foreign ownership in many mainland activities and free zones. Government priorities favor economic diversification. Hub71, a local startup platform, links companies to funding, incentives, and mentorship.
Archireef, founded in Hong Kong in 2020, set up in Abu Dhabi two years later and now also operates in Singapore and Saudi Arabia. Co-founder Vriko Yu says the emirate brings public and private stakeholders into a single conversation. The company secured industrial and commercial licenses, placed a factory at KEZAD, and based its operations at ADGM. Yu says the depth of the local industrial talent pool proved crucial, with workers experienced in materials ranging from clay to oyster shells. The company has taken funding from regional investors as well as VCs in Norway and Singapore.
Vivan Therapeutics, a UK biotech, established its regional entity at ADGM in 2025. Founder Laura Towart says Hub71, a clear regulatory path through the Department of Health, and access to senior decision-makers drew the company in. Vivan is launching TuMatch, an AI-powered tool to guide cancer treatment decisions. A clinical registration study with Burjeel Cancer Institute is focused on colorectal cancer, while discussions with Cleveland Clinic and Khalifa University are in progress. The company is raising growth funding for a robotics-driven R&D center at Masdar City.
Inovat, a London-founded fintech, moved to Abu Dhabi in 2023 and raised its first financing round there. The company helps banks, insurers, and travel businesses offer digital VAT refunds to international travelers. Co-founder Ilya Melkumov sees Abu Dhabi as a bridge between Europe and Asia, with investors who take a longer-term view. His advice to other founders: show working products, understand how the business fits Abu Dhabi's strategic priorities, and expect regulated partnerships to move slowly.
