Qatar's Aligator closes $1.2m seed round for PR AI agents

Aligator, a Qatar-based developer of autonomous AI agents for the public relations industry, has raised $1.2 million (QAR4.3 million) in seed funding. Qatar Development Bank and Next Ventures, a fund established by Media City Qatar, led the round. A group of private investors also took part.

The company was founded in 2025 by Ali Abbas and is staffed by Qatar Foundation alumni who graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar and Texas A&M University at Qatar. It is incorporated in Media City Qatar and holds a licence from the Qatar Financial Centre.

Aligator's agents are built for communications work rather than general-purpose tasks. They draft and distribute press materials, monitor media coverage, match journalists and outlets to a story, and run outreach workflows from start to finish. The agents are designed to learn a client's voice, its media landscape and its objectives, so output stays consistent and on brand.

The pitch rests on a familiar complaint inside agencies and in-house teams: coverage tracking, media list building, routine drafting and chasing follow-ups consume most of the working day. Strategy and relationship-building get what is left. Aligator positions its software as a way to lift that operational load off people.

"Public relations is one of the most relationship-driven and time-intensive industries, yet much of the day-to-day work is repetitive and ripe for intelligent automation," Abbas said. The investment, he added, will speed up the product roadmap, add engineering capacity and put agentic AI in front of communications professionals across the region and further afield.

Spending plans follow three lines: more autonomous PR agents, hires in engineering, AI research and go-to-market, and regional growth. The company is targeting agencies, corporates and government communications teams across the GCC and the wider MENA region.

Mohammed Al-Emadi, Executive Director of Incubation & Venture Capital Investment at Qatar Development Bank, described Aligator as a reflection of the country's homegrown innovation ecosystem and the technical talent emerging from it. The bank, he said, backs promising startups with capital and ecosystem support so they can develop products, strengthen capabilities and reach their next stage of growth. "We are pleased to invest in Aligator as it builds on this foundation and works toward its ambitions in Qatar, the region and beyond."

Khalid Mubarak Al-Naimi, a director and board member at Next Ventures, said the fund was set up to back companies with the potential to strengthen a sector and shape its future. Its investment in Aligator, he said, supports technology aimed at real market needs and provides the financial and strategic backing to scale from Qatar into regional and international markets, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

The deal sits within a broader stretch of activity around applied AI in the region, where investors are showing appetite for ventures built by locally trained talent. Aligator presents its team in those terms: graduates of Education City, now developing AI products from Doha.

Aligator operates from Media City Qatar under a Qatar Financial Centre licence.
