TalMal closes pre-Seed round to scale salary-backed purchasing in Saudi Arabia

TalMal, a Saudi fintech developing a salary-backed purchasing platform, has closed an undisclosed pre-Seed funding round with participation from MM Partners. The company is moving out of product development and business-model validation and into commercial expansion in the kingdom.

Founded in 2023 and led by founder and CEO Thamer Faisal Al-Qu'ayshish, TalMal is building a digital platform that connects employees, employers and merchants. Employees get purchasing capacity tied to their salaries, and repayment is organised through the employer. Merchants, in turn, reach employees who have purchasing capacity available to spend.

The company does not frame the product as a deferred-payment tool alone. It is building the technology infrastructure to handle purchasing, repayment and the interactions between the three parties on a single platform, and employers get tools to administer the process.

The arrangement places the employer inside the transaction loop rather than beside it. Purchasing capacity is set against an employee's salary, the employer carries the repayment, and the merchant completes the sale, with the platform keeping the record across all three.

Salary-backed purchasing sits between consumer credit and payroll services. What separates it from a standard instalment plan is the employer's role: repayment is administered at the workplace rather than by the merchant or a lender, and the platform supplies the tools both sides use to track it.

The funding will support plans to expand the corporate and merchant network, grow the employee user base and strengthen the technology infrastructure as TalMal scales. Its stated expansion covers the Saudi market.

Incubation and partnerships

TalMal has been part of Jada30, an incubation programme affiliated with Saudi Arabia's Social Development Bank, where it developed its business model and technology. The incubation period covered business-model validation as well as technical development. Jada30 confirmed the round had closed and that the company is entering a new phase of expansion.

Alongside the platform work, the startup has built commercial partnerships and integrations. Collaborations with Foodics, 360Solutions and Talento HRMS connect it to point-of-sale and human-resources infrastructure.

Scaling three sides at once

Al-Qu'ayshish said the investment marks the shift from building the product and validating the model to scaling the operation.

MM Partners said TalMal's ability to link employees, employers and merchants inside one model was among the factors behind its decision to invest.

Growth now depends on three networks expanding together: employers who route repayment through payroll, merchants who accept the model at checkout, and employees who use it. For TalMal, the pre-Seed close signals that the validation stage is finished. What follows is volume: more employers enrolling, more merchants accepting salary-backed purchases, and a larger employee base.

TalMal has not disclosed figures for its current employer, merchant or employee base. The size of the round and its terms were not released.
