Visa Acceptance Platform Adds Online Acceptance for UAE's Jaywan Cards
Merchants, acquirers and payment providers on the Visa Acceptance Platform can now take eligible Jaywan cards for digital purchases, with card-on-file tokenisation to follow.
Visa has extended support for Jaywan, the UAE's domestic card scheme, to online transactions on the Visa Acceptance Platform. Merchants, acquirers and payment service providers on the platform can now accept eligible Jaywan debit, credit and prepaid cards for digital purchases.
Jaywan is operated by Al Etihad Payments. Adding it to the platform lets businesses offer the scheme as a payment option across digital commerce use cases.
The platform combines payment acceptance, authentication and tokenisation in one system. It is built to help businesses accept and manage digital payments, including cards held on file, recurring transactions and digital wallets.
The integration will also support card-on-file network tokenisation for Jaywan cards through the Visa Token Management Service. Visa said the tokenisation support helps businesses manage recurring payments, subscriptions and other online transactions securely.
Al Etihad Payments and Visa agreed in March 2025 to jointly introduce Jaywan-Visa debit and prepaid cards, which let holders pay through Visa's network globally. The new work extends Jaywan acceptance further through the platform.
Andrea Cianchetti, chief products officer at Al Etihad Payments, said enabling Jaywan on the Visa Acceptance Platform embeds the UAE domestic card scheme further into digital commerce infrastructure.
Fadi Moukaddem, Visa's regional general manager for the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar, said enabling Jaywan through the platform helps expand payment choice while delivering secure, reliable and seamless experiences.
Online acceptance is where a domestic scheme's reach is tested. A card that works at the counter but not at checkout cannot carry subscriptions or saved credentials, and tokenisation closes part of that gap by replacing stored card details with network tokens that merchants can manage without holding the underlying number.
